Inside a gritty Manila newsroom

This is a photo of the Philippines Star printing room in the port district of Manila from my friend and former ninemsn and Newshub colleague Shaun Davies. This photo was taken in 2013 when Davies was striking a deal with the Star to get its content on MSN for Microsoft.

“This place was so old school. Newsroom on one side, marketing on the other, and printing set-up in the middle. This photo was taken from a rickety tunnel that connected the two sides over the printing machine. Wish I was a better photographer. Another time I went I literally saw a guy sleeping on a roll of newsprint. I loved the chaos of the place, the whole thing felt like it could fall down. I just really liked the closeness of news and production.”
